Winter Work

Writer's picture: Mike WadeMike Wade

A bee farmers work is never done. While the bees are in their winter cluster, regular checking is needed to ensure they have enough food to last until spring.

The bees also need to be treated for Varroa Mites to ensure they remain healthy and ready for the spring.

When all that is done then there is the task of preparing for the spring. In spring the colonies expand quickly and extra boxes of frames are needed for them to store the honey. All the frames need building in advance and rainy winter days are a perfect opportinity to get this done.
